I read this comic book many years ago when it first premiered. I have been anticipating the series. Some past comic book TV series have been problematic, so was skeptical.
Happy to say that I am really loving the new series. I know that there is a bit of controversy in regards to changes in the characterizations, but I love the adaptations and think it works for the more broadened audience that the show will likely capture.
Mostly, I would like to commend Amanda Neale ( www.amandaneale.co.nz ) for her interpretations of the characters clothes from comic book to live action. She did such a great job of taking the simplified garments and making them work in the live action context. Love the details and the thought put into each costume.
Take Sweet Tooth’s grown up costume and how the jeans are patch-worked together and are a bit too big on him. It shows the thought put into how he would have ended up with these clothes, having lived in the forest alone with his “dad” since his “birth”
The Animal Army costumes post apocalyptic feel with bits of softness around the edges help to add a layer to the group dynamic. The variety of textures, accessories, details and color palettes reveal each persons individuality and personality . Bear’s costume has a roundness and fluffiness to it that hints at her vulnerability that shows up in the end battle. I found it a fresh take on the apocalyptic costume trope with a mixture of colors and party attitude.
I would recommend a viewing,,, and watch out for the little details in costumes, props, sets, etc. It is a visually interesting show in addition to the entertaining story.
