Netflix and thrill- 2

Mike Flanagan is a genius in the Horror Genre in my opinion. He subtlety weaves bits of horrific actions into mysterious and story driven films and series. This is really my type of Horror film/series. Thoughtful and character based, psychological thrillers. They do not rely on blood and guts and teenagers making consistently stupid decisions. The movies and series are well thought out, the settings and cinematography are eerie from the start, as a foreshadow to coming events. He started out as an editor, but am grateful he jumped in front of the camera to bring us stunning films as writer, director and editor. It is his ability to handle all these roles that seems to make his movies stand out, with sophisticated scripts, subtle directing and expert editing.

There is an abundance of Mike Flanagan’s work on Netflix, most notably the three series, The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly House and most recently Midnight Mass. Midnight Mass is the most terrifying of them all, in my opinion, as it is not just the monsters that are scary, but specific townsfolk are horrible people that justify their behavior through a religious haze.

Other Netflix picks from Mike Flanagan: Gerald’s Game and Before I Wake.
