Welcome to Winnie Mac LLC.
My name is Wendy McPherson Benitez and here is a little about me.
Wacky, Wistful, Weird, Wonderful and Wanderer are all words that have been used to described Wendy (Also caring, crazy, creative, mentor, best boss poh, leader, organized and uplifting) I couldn’t have been any of this without the wonderful leaders, mentors and especially crews that I have been honored to work with around the world.
My career really started as a kid, playing with fabrics and drawing clothes as a young kid and then sewing and designing my own fashion as a young adult. This lead me to a University degree in Textiles and Design.
I really anticipated working for a fashion company after school, but a lucky turn of fate landed me a job as a textile buyer at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA. This is where I fell in love with costuming and determined this was definitely the right path for me! Disney was a great learning and growing environment. Loved the numerous projects I had the pleasure to work on, including the Opening of Hong Kong Disneyland as International Costumer.
Since my days at Disney, I have worked around the world with major theme parks, as well as cruise ships, and special event companies. My expertise lies in quality within a budget and leveraging in house talent for some production. In managing a project, I can design, create and manage budgets, monitor timelines and oversee production. I have a background in textiles and trims and love to work with dyeing, embroidering and custom printed fabrics, as well as exploring new technology. I am well adept at overseeing the whole project from start to finish — design, fabric selection, mock-ups, production, fittings, alterations, opening day and set up for smooth daily operations.
In addition to design work, I have been a key player in the opening of costuming departments for several theme projects around the world, including consulting on space arrangement, working with contractors for installation, and overseeing FFE orders. I have created operating supplies order lists and worked with procurement on fulfilling the orders. Worked closely with management and HR in recruiting, hiring and training talent from around the world. Educated management on overall costuming needs, as well as mentoring staff is quite a satisfying part of my job. With colleagues, we have written costume crew training manuals with an immersive week long training programs for new hires. I have also been involved in risk assessments for the costume department and writing safety protocols.
As you can see I enjoy and am passionate about my line of work, but I am also a giraffe lover, Halloween/Horror/Haunt enthusiast and art buff. I love wandering about, traversing the world, exploring, staying curious and being inspired.
Looking forward to continuing to design for global brands and helping you out with your next project.
